The Cheltenham Centre for Trauma Therapy specialises in the successful treatment of mental health difficulties in adolescence and adulthood often presenting as a range of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, fear of various descriptions, generalised anxiety, people pleasing, trauma responses, low self-esteem and self-worth, social phobias, addictions, stress overwhelm, anger … the list itself is overwhelming.
Trauma can present itself in many different ways which can be easily understood solely as a presenting symptom. So you might be in a depression and yet underlying that depression there will almost certainly be some form of trauma. You might be in an abusive relationship, living with a narcissist, suffering from intense anxiety? Helplessness and hopelessness are common symptoms of underlying trauma. The Journey
When our clients arrive in despair we see hope: a hope that says while I cannot presently cope I believe that with help I can journey to a better place. I don’t understand how and why I feel as I do but I don’t want to continue feeling like this and I need help.

Psychotherapuetic Understanding
We respect our client’s facility, capacity and intellectual and emotional ability to journey with us in developing a Psychotherapeutic understanding of how their lives came to this point.
We explore the totality of your life from which to develop this shared experiential understanding: how is a life and personality shaped? How is it that I came to this point in my life?
We explore the relationship between behaviour and feelings from early life onwards: how behaviour towards us creates feelings and assumptions about the world around us and how those assumptions shape our feelings and behaviour towards our world. Feelings which have become intolerable and perhaps behaviour we don’t understand.
Healing
Our approach to healing Mental Health difficulties is the result of many years of experience, both lived and in practice, of the underlying causes of suffering.
Intolerable feelings arising from presenting issues such as such as depression, anxiety, low self-worth, addictions and other symptomatic presentations may be all too apparent. They exist often seemingly without cause or context creating uncertainty, adding to the pain and suffering. This confusion is not surprising in that those underlying feelings exist outside our conscious experience, formed by our unconscious assumptions about ourselves in our lives.
We are experienced in facilitating a clients journey towards an understanding of how these confusing underlying feelings and assumptions came to exist. We help what is presently unknown to become known and so facilitate working with that understanding.

You will find your unique self that you were truly born to be. Our track record is one of successfully helping clients understand who they are in every moment of the present. Unhelpful feelings, assumptions and behaviours are processed and put where they belong in the past so that our present reality is no longer high jacked by the intolerable experiences of our past. Experiences represented by the feelings of depression, low self-worth and low self-esteem, loneliness, anxiety, anger, stress played out unhelpfully in our relationships with family and friends, in couples and at work. You will be able to centre yourself in your life and to feel at peace, content and able to lead a fulfilled purposeful life.
